IN BRIEF

Arco Restores Ancient Gonfalon

The Comune di Arco has commissioned the restoration of the ancient gonfalone to the laboratory of Katia Brida. The banner measures 160 centimetres in height and 114 centimetres in width, and is believed to be of Trentino manufacture, with a blue-grey silk background embroidered using polychrome and metallic threads. The inscription "Città di Arco" is made with silver-coloured thread, and the intervention was long awaited due to the deteriorated condition of the symbol.

The gonfalone has typical issues affecting old textiles, including widespread dust deposits, numerous tears especially in the lower section, and oxidation of the metallic embroidery. The restoration has been authorised by the Soprintendenza per i beni culturali of the Province, which provided the assessments required to proceed with the work.
