Recent developments regarding the Lake Garda have raised concerns about a potential flood alert, as the water level currently stands at 106% capacity. Local authorities report that the water levels, now at +144 centimeters above the hydrometric zero, are critical, particularly along the Veronese shores of Lazise and Bardolino, as well as the Brescia shores of Gargnano and Salò. Although there is no official mention of a flood risk yet, the situation remains delicate due to the ongoing inflow from tributaries, which exceeds the outflows.
Complicating matters further are ongoing maintenance works at the Salionze dam and along the Mincio River, which limit the lake’s water release capacity. The Secretary-General of the Garda Community, Pierlucio Ceresa, has confirmed that the current outflow is at its maximum for the time being and emphasizes the importance of avoiding strong winds in the coming days to prevent an increase in water levels. Starting in April, with the onset of the irrigation season, an increase in outflows is anticipated in an effort to stabilize the situation.
