Air Italy Launches Domestic Flights from Montichiari Using Saab 2000 Aircraft
Flights with Saab 2000 white aircraft featuring Air Italy livery will commence in the second half of July, marking the debut of the new airline presented yesterday in Milan.
Routes from Palermo and Catania to Genoa and Bologna will operate in the morning and evening, but most notably from «Gabriele D’Annunzio» in Montichiari. The new carrier aims to establish itself in the domestic scheduled flight market beginning with those regions which, as Mario Rusconi, the company’s CEO, emphasized, “are the areas with the highest growth rate in air transport in Italy.”
Strategic Plan and Planned Activities
In short, Sicily is a virgin market, and Air Italy relies on the stability of business in that region to strengthen its position and focus on the large-scale short and long-haul charter market. Initially, domestic flights will operate in “code sharing” with Meridiana, but the new airline will not be a substitute for it.
Air Italy will also expand its current services from Sicilian airports to Bologna and Genoa. However, the company’s future depends heavily on the development of the Montichiari airport, as a consortium of Brescia entrepreneurs is behind this new enterprise in the aviation market, which will benefit from one of the best runways in Italy.
Implementation and Destinations
This characteristic, combined with the purchase of two large 767-300 Er long-range aircraft, will enable Air Italy to be a competitive offering among the available carriers for Italian Tour operators.
Possible destinations include Zanzibar, Cuba and the Caribbean, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and Kenya. In short, a comprehensive holiday package at a significantly lower cost, according to Air Italy managers.
Management and Corporate Structure
The President of Air Italy is Claudio Galeazzi, owner of a company active in the automotive component sector, Yokohama di Carpenedolo.
The CEO and Vice President of Air Italy will be Mario Rusconi, former owner of Alpi Eagles, Air Dolomiti, Alinord, and Minerva Airlines.
The majority shareholding of the new company is held by the holding «Vittoria Alata», which includes some of the most prominent names in Brescia’s entrepreneurial community.
Future Perspectives and Considerations
“We are confident in our ability to establish ourselves effectively in a challenging environment,” explains Rusconi. “However, the combination of two types of aircraft suitable for different service areas leads us to believe in our success.”
“With significantly reduced operating costs, the agility of our structure will allow us to offer very competitive prices.”
