Aler Brescia and Mantova acquire historic psychiatric hospital for public housing development

The Aler of Brescia and Mantova have secured the winning bid for the purchase of the building complex in Castiglione delle Stiviere, previously used until a few years ago as a Judicial Psychiatric Hospital and owned by the Azienda Ospedaliera «Carlo Poma» of Mantova. The two Aler won the auction with an expenditure of approximately 7 billion lire, acquiring an area of about 12,300 square meters.

“An important acquisition,” explains Luigi Cavalieri, President of the Aler of Brescia, “which we attribute to a variety of meanings. Firstly, it demonstrates flexibility, efficiency, and autonomy on the part of two Companies, the Aler of Brescia and Mantova, highlighting the achievement of high levels of efficiency and synergy with other entities. This enables projects of building renovation and new construction, including the acquisition of properties on the free market for public housing.”

“Furthermore,” adds Vice President Luciano Rubessa, “the Aler of Brescia, like the Mantova company, has long expanded its institutional and corporate presence, intensifying its market participation, collaborating with dozens of municipalities, including the city of Mantova, universities, Care Homes, etc., in the management of housing and, most importantly, in the implementation of specific building recovery plans.”

Location and urban planning designations of the complex

As is known, the complex is located on Via Bernardo Ordanino, along a historic axis of Castiglione delle Stiviere, connecting the upper area of the Rocca with the Church of San Luigi Ganzaga and the adjacent Jesuit convent, now serving as the municipal headquarters. The former Psychiatric Hospital, according to the municipal urban planning document, is subject to potential modifications (defined in the Implementation Plan for the Judicial Psychiatric Hospital) that could realize a reevaluation of the urban area and introduce residential and tertiary land uses.

“The commitment of the Aler,” concludes President Luigi Cavalieri, “is to recover the buildings through appropriate investments aimed at reshaping these historically significant spaces, even for public use: I refer to the possibility of creating, alongside interventions for high-quality public housing, new green areas, pedestrian and bicycle paths, parking facilities, and the opportunity to study the urban planning arrangement of the complex, incorporating spaces dedicated to tertiary activities and commerce, as well as restoring the crossing through the historic center along Via Bratta Sedazzi, which is currently blocked by walls.”
