Alpine Rescue Recovers 79-Year-Old Man on Monte Giovo

A 79-year-old man from Brentonico was found safe after becoming lost in the woods near Monte Giovo on Saturday, August 15. He had left to look for a lost mobile phone between Mori and Castione di Brentonico, but lost his bearings and was unable to find the trail back to his car. The emergency call was made around 8:30 p.m. to the single emergency number.

The Unified Emergency Operations Centre activated the Vallagarina Alpine Rescue service, which sent six operators to the area. Because the reported location was imprecise, the search took longer, but was ultimately aided by a drone equipped with a thermal camera that spotted the man under dense vegetation. He was located in good condition, though tired, given first aid, and carried on a stretcher; firefighters from Mori then cleared a path through the vegetation. After reaching the road, he was escorted home after midnight.
