Arco: Online scam targeting a visually impaired man identified and reported by the carabinieri. A scam incident affected a 60-year-old visually impaired man residing in Alto Garda while he was attempting to sell a vacuum robot on Facebook Marketplace. The victim recounted the incident to a patrol from the Arco carabinieri station during a routine check in a park. After arranging a meeting at his home with a supposed buyer, the man showcased the vacuum robot he had listed for 500 euros. However, the scammer, a foreign national, took advantage of the situation by claiming he had no cash and convincing the seller to proceed with a simulated bank transfer via smartphone.
The carabinieri launched an investigation and successfully identified the suspect, conducting a search of his residence where the stolen vacuum robot was found and subsequently returned to its rightful owner. The scammer has been reported in a state of freedom to the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Rovereto for aggravated fraud against a person with a disability.
