A 46-year-old resident of the Brescia area has been arrested by the State Police for activities aimed at terrorism. The operation was carried out under a precautionary custody order issued by the judge of the Perugia court, following an investigation conducted by the Cyber Security Operational Center and the Anti-Terrorism Section of the Digos in Brescia, assisted by the Central Service of the Postal Police. The suspect, originally from Morocco, had been under surveillance since November 2023 when his connections to WhatsApp groups linked to the Islamic State came to light.
During a search at a garage associated with him, agents found handwritten sheets inciting martyrdom and holy war, along with jihadist propaganda material on his mobile phone. Investigations revealed his active involvement in an international network dedicated to recruiting and glorifying terrorist actions, also highlighting online searches related to the creation of homemade weapons.
