The transformative impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on contemporary society will be the focus of an in-depth reflection in Brescia. The eleven Lions Clubs from the Garda area, belonging to zones 41 and 42, in collaboration with the University of Brescia, are organizing a conference titled “Artificial Intelligence and Emotional Intelligence: Simple or Imperfect Future?”.
The event is scheduled for Saturday, May 10, 2025, starting at 09:30, at the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Law at the University of Brescia. The day aims to explore the many facets of AI, analyzing its ethical, social, economic, and legal implications. A particular emphasis will be placed on the potential dialogue and complementarity between artificial intelligence and emotional intelligence from a future perspective.
The conference will commence with institutional greetings and an introductory speech by Professor Maurizio Tira, Full Professor of Urban Planning and President of the UNIBS Foundation. His reflection will focus on the importance of human responsibility and the development of critical thinking in the age of AI. Following this, Luigi Della Bora, District Coordinator for the AI theme, and Teresa Croce, Head and Coordinator of the AI team, will introduce the speakers who will energize the debate.
A rich panel of experts will provide diverse perspectives on the topic: sociologist and essayist Francesco Morace will explore “gaseous modernity” and its relationship with new generations; Nicoletta Cusano, Extraordinary Professor of Theoretical Philosophy at UNIBS, will offer a philosophical reading of AI; Arturo Di Corinto, psychologist, journalist, and cybersecurity expert, will address the interaction between artificial and emotional intelligence and the dynamics of information manipulation. Legal aspects and digital security in the realm of cybercrime will be analyzed by criminal lawyer and cassation lawyer Salvatore Frattallone, while Daniele Monteleone, a computer scientist specializing in robotics and AI, will investigate the possibility of consciousness in machines. Closing the interventions will be Cosimo Accoto, tech philosopher and researcher at MIT in Boston, who will examine AI as a philosophical and cultural stimulus.
The goals of this event are ambitious: to stimulate constructive reflection on the boundaries and limits of AI, to help outline its appropriate role in society, to identify associated risks, to define a solid ethical framework, to promote research aimed at human well-being, and to widely disseminate the knowledge acquired, with a particular focus on younger generations.
The conference is aimed at a broad audience, including authorities, organizations, local businesses, students in the last two years of secondary schools, and university students, offering an important opportunity for education and discussion on one of the most relevant challenges of our time.
The conclusions of the day will be entrusted to Alessandro Colombo, Governor of District 108 I62.
