Bisse Rowing Gains Momentum with New Teams and Community Support
The bisse double their numbers. This year, there are now two crews participating in the Venetians-style boat race, present in the Garda rowing championship contested for the symbolic “Lake Flag”.
Alongside the “Bardolino” bissa, which has been maintaining the same crew for about ten years (Bruno and Pierfrancesco Maffezzoli, Silvano Dall’Agnola, and Mauro Faraoni), now also competes a brand-new boat, “Preonda”, operated by four young men whose combined ages total just eighty years.
They are Bardolino locals Rusgero Pozzani, Gregorio Ariettì (both born in 1981), and Alessio Bilancio 80, while in the third oar is Davide Mosconi from Laces.
Achievements and news in the world of bisse
The four talented members of “Bardolino” reached the highest step of the podium in 1998, claiming the blue flag: they also earned the silver flag in 1993, 1997, and 1999, and the bronze medal in 1992 and 1996.
Another recent development from the Bardolino Nautical Club, the same organization that in 1990, after more than twenty years of absence, revived the tradition of the bisse in Bardolino, is the appointment of expert Luciano Montresor as president and Giovanni Arduini as vice-president of the Bisse Group.
All these innovations in the bisse world are complemented by the confirmation of the Garda Community to renew the agreement supporting the Bisse League for the year 2000.
“The annual competition held on the waters of Lake Garda, where local teams compete for the coveted and prestigious Lake Flag,” states the Garda Community in a press release, “not only represents a captivating and always charming folkloric event but also a unifying element for the entire Benaco (Lake Garda), embodying a symbol of representation and image.”
With the renewal of the agreement, following the renewal of the Disse League’s board of directors, now chaired by Franco Poli, the community organization confirms its ongoing support, including administrative secretarial work, production and dissemination of promotional material, press office, and the venue for meetings of the League’s governing bodies.
This support from the Community proved crucial not only for technical matters such as renewing statutes and racing regulations but also for renewed funding requests directed to Veneto Region, Lombardy, and the Province of Brescia Department of Sport.
