The nightmare of blackouts on Lake Garda is back, with power outages affecting several areas in the region. The first intense heat and the increase in tourist numbers seem to be among the main causes of the electrical overload. The areas most affected include Lonato, Desenzano, and Valtenesi, with reports of intermittent blackouts over the weekend. In Desenzano, the Grezze neighborhood was particularly affected, while the hospital experienced a power outage on Sunday evening from 23:15 to 23:30, which was managed using backup generators.
On Monday morning, the problems continued in Grezze and spread in the afternoon to Padenghe, Moniga, and Manerba. Giovanni Maiolo, the councilor for public works in Desenzano, stated that there have been no official communications from the electricity provider regarding the exact causes of the outages. However, it is presumed that they are due to the overload caused by the intensive use of refrigerators and air conditioners during a period of high tourist influx. Enel reported that a malfunction in Moniga was quickly resolved after being reported by local users.
