Brescia and leisure time: sports events drive local economy

Recent data published on September 1st by Il Sole 24 Ore, based on information from Unioncamere-Infocamere, highlights a significant dynamism in the leisure sector in Brescia, which stands out for its positive performance compared to the national average. With 7.62 active leisure businesses per 1,000 registered, the province surpasses the national figure of 6.91, ranking among the top in Italy with a total of 893 businesses in the sector. In particular, Brescia leads the Italian ranking for sports events and organized initiatives, boasting an impressive index of 4.29 events per 1,000 active businesses, demonstrating how sports serve as a crucial economic and social driver for the area.

Barbara Quaresmini, President of Confesercenti Lombardia Orientale, emphasizes the importance of these results as a solid foundation for supporting local businesses and fostering innovation. Andrea Maggioni, Coordinator of Confesercenti of Lake Garda, adds that Brescia and its lake are becoming exemplary models in the Italian leisure landscape, thanks to a synergy between institutions and local communities. According to Maggioni, sports events are not merely moments of entertainment but strategic levers for the local tourism economy, capable of enhancing the territory sustainably and extending the tourist season.
