Brescia Begins Construction of New Municipal Parking Lot on Via Preite
The work is underway for the construction of the municipal parking lot on via Preite. For several days, the Brescia-based company Roda has been engaged in excavations for the development of the underground level, with a net surface area of just under 2,900 square meters, featuring parking and maneuvering spaces for 120 cars, as well as a central block containing technical areas, a staircase, and an elevator for access to the ground floor.
The surface of the underground level’s roof will be partly used as space for vehicle maneuvering and parking (6 bus parking spots and 22 car parking spots, including four for disabled persons), and partly as green space. The center of the courtyard will feature a single-story building comprising two blocks connected by a passageway.
The western block, in addition to housing the ticket office, will serve as a kiosk; the eastern block will contain restrooms, and the central area will house the staircase and elevator connecting to the underground level.
Parking access and safety measures
Vehicle entry and exit points are located at opposite corners, with emergency pedestrian lanes on either side of each gate, running along the vehicle ramps up to ground level.
For rapid evacuation in case of emergency, a safety staircase is planned to provide additional communication with the upper level.
Funding and management
The project, which will become one of the first parking facilities built with funding from the Regione Veneto, was presented to local businesses and trade associations during a press conference held in the civic hall.
“A project,” announced Mayor Giorgio Comencini, “initially conceived as a private-convenience parking lot, but which, thanks to the regional Department of Transportation’s involvement and the collaboration of surveyor Maurizio Poli, has been established on municipal land and only partially on state-owned land.”
Focusing on financial aspects, the mayor highlighted that the ten-year financing plan mainly involves the Region, with an annual contribution of 430 million euros, while the municipality’s share is 50 million euros annually.
Regarding the parking lot management, Comencini expressed willingness to negotiate with private entities and trade associations.
Public Works Councillor Lorenzo Vantini pointed out that efforts have been accelerated to ensure that the work is completed within 300 days.
Project designer Bruno Bonagiunti focused on the systems, particularly the automated parking regulation systems, which make the parking lot highly functional.
