Brescia Province and Region Plan Land Use for Montichiari Airport Development
The Regional Council approved, upon proposal by the assessors for Urban Planning and Land, Alessandro Moneta, for Infrastructures and Mobility, Massimo Corsaro, and for Environment, Franco Nicoli Cristiani, the memorandum of understanding between the Region and the Province of Brescia for the drafting of the District Land Use Plan for Montichiari Airport.
The protocol aims to coordinate infrastructure development projects, align strategies for economic and social growth, and ensure environmental compatibility of the surrounding area, which includes the municipalities of Castenedolo, Ghedi, and Montichiari.
The District Land Use Plan, which must be drafted within two years of signing the protocol, will outline strategic development directions, identifying priorities such as: environmental and urban compatibility, transportation networks, economic and employment impacts, and intervention planning.
Focus on Development Areas
Special attention will be given to areas designated for residential, industrial, commercial, tourism and hotel, educational, sports, and training development, as well as disused areas and their potential for reuse.
“Montichiari Airport, recently enhanced to meet the needs of Verona Catullo Airport — said regional Urban Planning assessor Alessandro Moneta — holds particular importance especially due to its central position between Lombardy, Emilia Romagna, and Veneto, and for its socio-economic vitality.
“The geographical location of this airport — added Moneta — and its unique territorial situation, lacking concentrated urban or settlement clusters nearby, further emphasize its potential and capabilities. It will also be an opportunity to foster fruitful interregional collaboration with Veneto, linking Villafranca and Montichiari to create an airport hub of significant importance for that territory.
“Furthermore, the placement of a new airport near Verona, within the Brescia region — concluded the assessor — enhances the competitiveness of the entire Brescia economic system.”
The Province of Brescia, responsible for coordinating all activities related to the development of the district plan, will now define the procedures for drafting the plan, as well as any potential expansion to other territorial areas functional to the project itself.
