Bresciadue Event Highlights Animal Welfare, Awards, and RAI Journalist Emilio Nessi

The “Dog and Cat Festival,” which took place last Sunday in the city at Cascina del Parco Gallo, was a great success, featuring a special guest: RAI journalist Emilio Nessi. He has long been involved in issues concerning the Canile di Calcinatello, raising awareness among the national public.

In the premises of the Bresciadue farm, representatives from the associations Adan (Associazione Diritti Animali e Natura), Atar (Associazione Tutela Animali Randagi), and Avar (Associazione Volontari Amici Randagi) gathered. These organizations have been campaigning for a long time to promote animal rights and to counter the concerning phenomenon of stray animals.

Activities and initiatives of the event

The three animal welfare associations organized a pleasant afternoon—filled with games, refreshments, and a raffle—dedicated to the four-legged friends. Attendees were invited to share “animal stories,” among which the story of Billy, a sweet beagle who, like many of his kind, was unlucky enough to be confined in a rescue shelter. After various hardships, he finally found a family willing to adopt him.

The Avar association also announced the positive outcome of the recent meeting with Ettore Brunelli, the environmental councilor, regarding the request, made over a year ago, for a piece of land loaned for the creation of a shelter for abandoned cats.

It was reported that in the coming days, the final project is being drafted for the creation of the “Feline Sanctuary,” which will be followed by an agreement with the Comune di Brescia for an area of approximately 500 square meters located near the floricultural market (Parco del Mella area), fully immersed in greenery.

Awards and related events

Also present at the event were Gianni Errico and Diana Lanciotti, responsible for the Desenzano-based association “Fondo Amici di Paco,” which promoted the second edition of the national literary award named after the same.

The award ceremony will take place tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. in the Andrea Celesti auditorium (via Carducci 6) in Desenzano del Garda. The three winners selected from middle school students across Italy will be honored, and a special prize will be awarded to the top student from Desenzano’s middle schools.

RAI journalist Emilio Nessi will return, presenting his latest book — “Theo, the Gift of the Gods” — along with an interesting short film about the rescue of marine mammals.
