A bear with her two cubs was spotted on Friday afternoon in the Persegno area of Toscolano Maderno, within the Parco dell’Alto Garda Bresciano. This rare and surprising event, even for experts, saw the three animals emerge from a wooded area, engaged in exploring the ground. Two witnesses reported the sighting to emergency services, and shortly thereafter, a hiker confirmed the presence of the bear and her cubs, who quickly moved away upon sensing human presence.
This sighting marks the first confirmed case of a brown bear litter in the Brescia area in recent times. Although similar appearances have been documented in Trentino through camera traps, the current situation necessitates caution to ensure a balance between humans and wildlife. It is crucial that human presence does not become a disturbance or a threat to these animals, especially during the delicate phase of the cubs’ growth.
