CAI Desenzano Resumes Activities with Hiking, Bike Tours, and Environmental Events
The section of CAI di Desenzano is preparing to resume activities after the summer break, which was limited to the month of August. It will be the lively veterans who will lead the way first, today and tomorrow, to tackle the Sassolungo (2,681 meters) in the Dolomites: approximately ten hours of total trekking over the two days.
Bike ride between Termeno and Appiano
On Sunday, September 16, there will be a bike trip along the wine route between Termeno and Appiano: about forty kilometers traveled at a relaxed pace through vineyards and castles of South Tyrol, in search, undoubtedly fruitful, of scenic and gastronomic delights. Departure from the equipped bus at 7:00 AM.
Thirty spots are available for bicycles; an additional 20 participants can join without bike. It is necessary that the vehicle has a gear shift because the route, though completely easy, features some ups and downs. The expected arrival at Termeno is at 9:00 AM; the bike excursion continues to Caldàro Lake, with visits to the wine museum and a stop at an agriturismo for lunch.
In the afternoon, transfer to Appiano and the departure is scheduled at 4:00 PM; expected arrival at Rivoltella.
Autumn hikes in the Giudicarie Alps and the Chiese Valley
On September 19, the veterans will gather once again for a hike in the Valle Aperta (2,059 meters), in the Giudicarie Alps. It will be a less demanding trek than today’s Sassolungo adventure, but still offering significant scenic beauty.
The program includes two more events in October: on the 3rd, to reach Cima Meghé (1,801 meters), and on Wednesday, the 17th, to visit Dosso Piemp (1,207 meters).
A special event is scheduled for Sunday, October 14, involving a guided tour along the ethnographic trail of Rio Caino in the Chiese valley in the municipality of Cimego: an open-air museum showcasing the craftsmanship and industriousness of local communities dating back to World War I.
Environmental Day and School Initiatives
The section’s official event with high school students will be on Saturday, October 20, for the Environmental Day, which each year sees an increasing number of school groups participating and… more and more waste collected during beach and park clean-ups.
This is a dual educational opportunity: for the youth, who will experience firsthand how careless holidaymakers can dirty public spaces; and for adults, who, perhaps prompted by the comments of the young, will reflect on how to better respect the environment.
Schools interested in contributing to the event can contact the section at (tel. 030 9902604); the same number provides information and booking details for the excursions.
End of the season
The season will conclude on Sunday, the 28th, with the traditional October fest.
