The environmental situation concerning the Chiese River continues to raise concerns, as highlighted by the recent report from the Calcinato Citizens’ Committee, which has noted a persistent fish die-off. The association has brought attention to the distress among aquatic specimens along the river, which flows through the provinces of Brescia and Mantova. In particular, a significant die-off of barbs, fish weighing around 2 kg, has been reported, with abnormal behaviors observed in other species as well. Despite communications made and the collection of dead specimens by the ATS for analysis, no explanations regarding the damages suffered have yet emerged.
The Committee also referred to additional problems encountered on April 16, when carp exhibited clear signs of illness. As the end of April approaches, citizens continue to notice anomalies in the fish, including the presence of spots on their skin. The lack of responses regarding the causes affecting the river’s fish population is causing growing unease among local residents and nature enthusiasts. The Committee hopes that clarifications regarding the health of the Chiese River and its aquatic inhabitants will arrive soon.
