Caleotto, a company specializing in the production of high-value-added steel wire rod and part of the Feralpi group, has begun work on installing a modern Garret line in its rolling mill in Lecco. This investment was made in partnership with SMS Group and will allow the company to expand the dimensional range of its products and improve their intrinsic properties.
The new Garret line will be dedicated to the production of coils with diameters ranging from 19 mm to 32 mm. Thanks to this technology, Caleotto will achieve not only better surface quality of the finished products but also greater uniformity in the dimensional characteristics of the coils and significantly enhanced steel structure. Controlled cooling of the steel will ensure excellent mechanical properties.
The production of the new Garret line will include coils weighing between 1.4 and 1.85 tons, at speeds up to 20 m/s and with winding temperatures ranging from 700 to 900 ºC.

SMS Group, Caleotto’s technological partner, has been supporting the Feralpi group since the restart of the Lecco plant in 2015. With the installation of the Multiloop for thermomechanical rolling of wire rod, the MEERdrive®PLUS finishing/calibrating block, and the coil finishing and transportation line, Caleotto produces high-quality wire rod in terms of dimensional tolerance and surface quality. The new Garret line will further expand the company’s dimensional range.
