Campagnola Issues Safety Measures for Ordnance Clearance in Malcesine

Safety measures for the disposal of a World War-era unexploded device found in Campagnola, in the municipality of Malcesine, will take effect on Thursday, July 15. Mayor Giuseppe Benamati has signed an urgent ordinance establishing a security area from 9:00 a.m. to allow the recovery and subsequent transport of the ordnance. The operation is coordinated by the Verona Prefecture, with Navy Military Engineering specialists from the Nucleo SDAI handling the recovery, while the Army’s Genio Guastatori will transport the device to the site identified for deactivation, under technical guidance from the 8th Paratrooper Engineers Regiment “Folgore.” A 71-metre safety radius has been set around the affected point.

Within the security area, navigation, stopping, and anchoring of boats are prohibited, along with recreational and professional fishing, scuba diving, bathing, and any other activity considered dangerous. Access is also restricted on the Campagnola beach, and transit, stopping, and lingering are banned along the cycle-pedestrian path crossing the zone. The restrictions will remain in force from 9:00 a.m. on July 15 until the operations are completed or new measures are issued. Enforcement will be carried out by the Local Police and other authorities, including the Coast Guard in Salò, the Carabinieri in Malcesine, and the Fire Brigade.
