An operation conducted by the Carabinieri of the Provincial Command of Mantova has uncovered serious irregularities related to labor exploitation and undeclared agricultural work in 11 farms in the area. Between June 10 and 12, the military inspected 14 companies, discovering undeclared workers and unacceptable living conditions, with over 60 laborers crammed into dilapidated apartments in Sermide and Felonica. The violations identified resulted in complaints and fines totaling approximately 78,000 euros, with three companies suspended for serious deficiencies.
The investigations involved more than 70 military personnel and also revealed instances of deplorable living conditions, such as mattresses infested with pests and the absence of sanitary facilities. Two entrepreneurs were reported for labor exploitation, while another eight individuals were referred for violations related to safety and the employment of foreign workers without residence permits. This operation is part of a broader plan by the Prefecture of Mantova aimed at combating labor exploitation in the agricultural and industrial sectors, with inspections set to continue in the coming weeks.
