Caprino Musica: Four Evenings of Classical Music Promoted by Local Authorities
Four evenings entirely dedicated to classical music. The initiative, titled “Caprino Musica”, is promoted by the Comune and the Biblioteca di Caprino.
“It is the first attempt to dedicate a whole series of events to this musical genre,” explains Gaetano Greco, a member of the library committee.
“The novelty lies in our attempt to give an organic structure to the event. The ultimate goal is to create a real Classical Music Festival or at least to establish a cultural moment that can be repeated in the future.”
Program sections and detailed evenings
The program is divided into two separate sections: piano conversations and palace concerts.
The first includes two evenings, Thursday, May 4 and Thursday, May 18, dedicated to four verismo operas: La Traviata, Nabucco, La Forza del Destino, and Aida. This has been organized in collaboration with the Fondazione Arena.
“It is an attempt to understand and study opera, what it is, how it originates, and also how it is staged,” states Greco.
This year, the Arena artistic program is dedicated to Giuseppe Verdi, with new productions of all his operas except Aida.
“During the evenings, Maestro Fabio Fapanni, also the artistic secretary of the Foundation, will explain musical passages and atmospheres that characterize Verdi’s melodrama. The collaboration with the Foundation will also allow us to attend some rehearsals of the various operas,” explains Greco.
Palace concerts and local artists
“The palace concerts are instead two appointments dedicated to young local artists who have already distinguished themselves for their performance skills as well as expertise and professionalism.”
The first evening, scheduled for Sunday, May 14 at 5 p.m., features the Trio Salieri. Three young musicians offering a chamber repertoire that is not widely known, performing compositions by lesser-known composers active between the 18th and 20th centuries.
On Sunday, May 28 at 5 p.m., Valeria Meduri will perform a piano recital. She has performed multiple times at Caprino. The artist will interpret works by Mozart, Bach, Liszt, Debussy, and Scriabin.
“An attempt,” Meduri emphasizes, “to highlight the journey taken over two centuries by Western cultivated music, which has evolved from the classical sonata form to the free Romantic fantasy.”
