Carabinieri Scam Calls: How to Recognize and Protect Yourself

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Upper Garda areas, offering subscriptions to magazines associated with the force.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance department, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal wardens.

Recognizing scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or magazine titles that have nothing to do with the law enforcement.

Therefore, be vigilant and immediately notify the real Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,

if they have money, disappear without a trace.
