The Carabinieri are impersonated by scam artists who contact hotel owners, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Medio and Alto Garda regions, offering subscriptions to magazines affiliated with the force.

These are not military personnel but fraudsters who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance authority, police, fire brigade, or municipal officers.

How to recognize scams and how to react

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or publications that have no connection with law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who, if they have the money, disappear.
