Carnevale di Manerba: Parades, Floats, and Family Celebrations
As long anticipated, the series of events for the 16th edition of the Carnevale di Manerba del Garda will begin tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, February 27. A much-awaited event for both children and adults, capable of transforming a normal Sunday afternoon into a moment of gathering and fun for entire families.
Enjoyment through satire but also through the reenactment of stories, fairy tales, and legends that for decades have been able to capture the attention of children. Initially, the Carnevale di Manerba, through its allegorical floats, was mainly focused on political events and situations related to the local territory and administrative life.
Later, over the years, the focus on «facts and misdeeds» gradually loosened, transforming the representations into much more cheerful choreographies that are also understandable by those who are not very familiar with Manerese politics. Thus, the floats now feature Cinderella, Moby Dick, pirates, TV shows (Striscia with the showgirls), etc.
The Engaging Parades and Allegorical Floats
Topics highly appreciated by the audience, which usually crowds the streets of the city center during the two parade days to watch and participate in the event. About ten floats, along with some masked groups, two of which come from neighboring municipalities Moniga and Puegnago.
This participation is a good omen for transforming the Carnevale di Manerba into the Carnevale della Valtenesi. Naturally, the goal of the participants is to beat the float presented by the Pieve district, the winner of the previous edition with the beautiful float featuring Peter Pan and «L’isola che non c’è».
According to gathered rumors, the quality of the float construction is increasingly assured, with the use of papier-mâché and structures worthy of carnival events much more famous. The parade start, led by the Manerba Music Band and immediately followed by the float of «His Majesty the King of Maöl», is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. from the Balbiana district.
Itinerary and Carnival Celebrations
The itinerary follows the now traditional route through the historic city center up to the Montinelle district, with a return to Piazza Aldo Moro, where voting will take place by a dedicated jury. For Sunday, February 27, the participation of the «Città di Bovolone» Band and Majorettes and the Muscoline Band is scheduled.
As always, the Saturday afternoon of March 4 will be entirely dedicated to children with the «Silver Mask» contest, which will be held at the municipal gymnasium of the middle schools.
This highly anticipated event typically involves over 200 children, all strictly masked, many wearing truly exceptional costumes. Meanwhile, a general bet has also opened on who the beautiful damsels will be that will serve the Court of the King of Maöl.
This choice is entrusted solely to the «crowned» character, who with his float aims to remind everyone of the exceptional product of his kingdom, in Brescian «Maöl», which corresponds to the excellent wine Groppello.
