Castiglione Considers Private Elderly Care Facility Amid Reduced Waiting Lists
The president of the nursing home ‘Zanetti-Cominelli’, Luigi Bianchi, supports the proposal to build an elderly care facility in Castiglione operated by private entities. The project, currently under review by the municipal administration, is considered “an opportunity not to be missed,” although there is a hope or recommendation that the costs will not ultimately be borne by the community.
According to Bianchi, it is important for the town to have an additional service. He also points out that the situation has changed compared to the past. For example, in the area, the number of care homes has multiplied.
Reduction of waiting lists and new regulatory framework
The resulting increase in bed capacity has drastically reduced the waiting lists for access to elderly institutions. Additionally – Bianchi notes – a new law on assistance was recently approved by Parliament, after several years of discussion. The legislation favors and promotes home care, offering a bonus to families who wish to keep their elderly relatives, partially or fully non-autonomous, at home.
“This could be – emphasizes the president – a way to reduce the number of residents in nursing homes, which, in my opinion, will continue to exist and fulfill their social function.”
It is precisely within this framework that the ‘Zanetti-Cominelli’ administration is currently working on a project to adapt and expand the facility.
