Castiglione Hospital Crisis Sparks Calls for Open City Council Meeting
“We will hold an open city council meeting, in which I believe the Poma general director should come to Castiglione to compare his ideas with the needs of the citizens.”
The issue of healthcare in Castiglione is becoming increasingly urgent. In fact, Luca Placidi, president of the committee for the safeguarding of hospitals in the Alto Mantovano, has again raised this concern.
Position of the municipal administration
Taking up the issue immediately to express their concerns about the situation is Erminia Biaggi, the councilor for health and social services of the municipality of Castiglione. She states that she fully agrees with the ideas of the committee and the fears expressed by Luca Placidi: “What has been said by the committee aligns completely with my views, across the board.
Our hospital has been stuck in a state of inertia and a muffled environment for too many months, which leaves me little hope. We are still waiting for Dea accreditation, which has not arrived. Additionally, the Cal, for dialysis, is operational but not yet for severe cases, as there is insufficient staff.
The Coronary Unit, built with substantial expenses and in record time, is also not functioning because there are no nurses.”
Risks and future prospects
Biaggi goes even further than Placidi, speaking of a serious risk of closure for the Castiglione hospital if specific steps are not taken: “I am absolutely convinced,” said Biaggi, “that if we do not obtain Dea accreditation soon, our hospital will gradually shut down and close.”

Next institutional steps
To discuss these topics at the institutional level, Biaggi announced that starting from Monday’s council meeting she will invite Mayor Sigurtà to call an open city council dedicated to the Castiglione hospital, also inviting General Director Colombo.
