Castiglione Mayor Opposes Road Widening, Seeks Traffic Improvements
Mayor Arturo Sigurtà, upon learning of the petition regarding road traffic promoted among the residents of Astore and Santa Maria localities, intervenes and comments on the requests on which a signature collection is currently underway.
Positions on Road Widening
“Regarding the widening of the carriageways by two meters,”
– declares Sigurtà – “I consider the hypothesis unfeasible. To me, country roads are sacred and cannot become highways. In fact, if it were up to me, I would revert them to dirt roads.”
The mayor leaves no room for hope regarding the expansion and paving of roads in the area. However, he responds positively to the other points raised in the petition.
Proposals to Improve Traffic Flow
“Regarding the intersection that leads onto via Astore,”
– explains the mayor – “we will consider an arrangement; there should be no particular problems. As for the ditch around the walls of the Santa Maria convent, there has already been discussion about lining the channel.”
Local residents also complain about the lack of horizontal signage, with lines delimiting the carriageways now faded, or covered by leaves and soil, and often interrupted by potholes.
On this issue, Sigurtà has contacted the police command to report on the situation. The mayor, however, has an idea to make vehicle transit in the northern fractions of Castiglione smoother: “One could establish one-way streets in the area’s roads, creating a one-way circuit that connects the various localities experiencing traffic problems.”
