Castiglione to Cover Costs of Seized Vehicle Demolition Amid Political Tensions

The Municipality will have to cover the costs for the demolition of the vehicles seized from Cinque Continenti on Thursday. This hypothesis, only floated in the past few hours, seems very close to becoming reality.

The Polizia municipale di Castiglione, led by Commander Aldo Aresti (pictured), is facing a difficult situation despite the commitment and will of the police force itself. The cars, at least a handful out of the nine seized, are not identifiable from the ownership perspective: they were, in fact, available to non-EU nationals who are in Italy without residence permits and therefore have disappeared into thin air.

To avoid ending up with the same cars still on the road, uninsured, the Municipal Police will order their demolition, at an estimated cost of 200,000 lire per vehicle. In this situation, it is difficult for the Comune di Castiglione to recover the expenses incurred from anyone.

The Lega Nord motion

The issue becomes even more relevant considering the current political climate in Castiglione, especially as the upcoming City Council meeting will include the motion presented by the Lega Nord demanding the establishment of a control commission for high-risk neighborhoods, particularly monitoring the Cinque Continenti.

A significant portion of the majority has already expressed its intention to vote in favor of the Lega’s proposal: the discussion, given the positions of other groups and the mayor, is certain to take place. The council is expected to be convened on September 20.
