Change at the top of the Garda Lake Coast Guard
A significant change in leadership at the Coast Guard of Lago di Garda recently took place in Salò, where Commander Frigate Captain (CP) Antonello Ragadale handed over command to Commander Corvette Captain (CP) Massimiliano Quinto after five years of service. The event was attended by military personnel and included visits by the two officers to the Prefects of the provinces of Brescia and Verona, as well as to the Mayor of Salò and the Garda Community. During his tenure, Ragadale led important rescue and assistance operations for swimmers and sports enthusiasts, reinforcing the Coast Guard as a fundamental pillar in ensuring navigation safety.
Ragadale will now take command of the newly established Operational Unit for Lakes of the Coast Guard in Milan, which will coordinate operations on Italy’s lakes. The Coast Guard has been present on the lake for 26 years, following a request from the then President of the Garda Community, aimed at enhancing lake safety. It currently comprises 45 personnel and 10 naval vessels ready to respond 24/7, thereby providing effective support for SAR operations in adverse weather conditions. This transition marks an important step in further consolidating operational capabilities in the field of nautical safety on Italy’s largest lake.
