A high-speed chase took place on Friday evening in Lonato del Garda, when a 50-year-old man from Brescia, driving a stolen car, ignored a police checkpoint. Officers from the Mobile Squad had identified the Volvo V50 that had been stolen in Brescia the day before, and after following it through the streets of the town, they attempted to stop the driver. Instead of halting, the man accelerated, driving onto sidewalks and running through intersections with red lights, endangering pedestrians and other vehicles.
After a lengthy pursuit that ended on a dirt road blocked by an irrigation ditch, the man attempted to escape on foot but was apprehended by the officers. During his arrest, he reacted violently, striking the police with kicks and punches. Arrested for violence and resisting a public official, as well as for receiving stolen property, the 50-year-old was made available to the Public Prosecutor’s Office. The Chief of Police in Brescia issued him an oral warning for public safety and a mandatory expulsion order, prohibiting his return to the municipality of Lonato del Garda for the next four years.
