Chernobyl Aid Program Highlighted at Moniga del Garda Event
The action program and humanitarian initiative in favor of children affected by the Chernobyl tragedy will be presented at 6 p.m. on Friday, February 25, at the enoteca of Moniga del Garda “Garda & Vino”.
Promotion and activities of the association
The meeting is promoted by the “Help for Children” association, recognized by the Belarusian government for its work concerning the serious problems caused by the Chernobyl nuclear power plant explosion.
Since that event, many families in our province have participated thanks to the DARE project (called DAR in Russian), hosting numerous Belarusian children.
This operation is ongoing and allows these young people, during a one-month stay, to decontaminate approximately 50%. But this is not the only initiative promoted by this association, whose charitable work is now well known to many people.
Other interventions and support
Additional efforts are aimed at long-distance adoption projects.
They also consistently supply hospitals, orphanages, and the Religious Sisters of Mother Teresa of Calcutta with hygiene items, medicines, food, and clothing.
Periodically, a village is identified where packages containing necessary materials are delivered to families, depending on their various needs.
The association knows the composition of each family, including the gender and age of its members.
The humanitarian convoy and future activities
On April 6, the eighth consecutive year, a humanitarian convoy will depart, composed of people who self-fund and cover all travel expenses, consisting of 4 trucks and 30 campers with 160 volunteers.
In Gomel, the city most affected by nuclear radiation, the association has its own office to directly oversee everything, ensuring that the delivered supplies are used optimally and, above all, that they reach the intended recipients.
During the evening in Moniga, some volunteers will present the entire program in detail, providing attendees with all the information and specifics about the project.
Of course, participation is open to everyone.
