The mayors of the Chiese area have expressed their opposition to the Garda wastewater treatment plant project by submitting a complaint to the Court of Auditors to contest the decisions made regarding water management. This action was accompanied by a petition that involved all the municipalities of the Mountain Community, highlighting concerns related to the current system, designed in 1985, and the abandonment of sublacual pipelines in favor of constructing two new treatment plants, which are deemed expensive and ineffective.
Furthermore, the mayors have raised questions about the transparency in the use of funds allocated by the Ministry of the Environment, amounting to 100 million euros for the treatment project. Although part of these resources has been earmarked to achieve an adequate design level, there is a lack of clear documentation regarding their usage. The project costs have escalated from 3.66 million to over 5.4 million euros without sufficient justification, prompting local representatives to call for an investigation by the Public Prosecutor’s Office to verify any potential financial misconduct and provide further evidence on the matter.
