City Council Approves Leiblfing Twinning and Local Tax, Growth Trends

The City Council has approved a twinning agreement with the German city of Leiblfing, a town of approximately 4,000 inhabitants located in eastern Bavaria, in the Aiterach river valley, which flows into the nearby Danube, about 40 km from the former Czechoslovakia border.

“Exchange programs with Leiblfing have already been ongoing mutually for a couple of years, and now it’s just a matter of formalizing the official exchange with a dedicated event scheduled to take place in Affi in May,” said Alfredo Opri, delegated councilor.

The Council then unanimously amended the regulation for the application of the ICI (Imposta Comunale sugli Immobili), which now provides a reduced rate for property attachments such as garages, canopies, or warehouses, set at a 4 per thousand rate similar to the primary residence (while the second home is taxed at 5 per thousand).

It was also unanimously decided to subcontract the maintenance service for public greenery, covering an area of 28,000 square meters of grass to be mowed and 13 km of roadside curbs.

Finally, the Council entrusted the consultancy for citizens in applying for social welfare benefits to the Caf Adi and the trade unions.

Resident Population Data

The population data for 1999 has been officially communicated: the Municipality population continues to grow, as does that of other nearby towns within the Garda inland area, especially Cavaion and Costermano, contrary to the general trend observed in most Verona and Garda municipalities.

“The data provided by the registry office is clear: in 1999, we had 1,840 residents, of whom 911 were males and 929 females, an increase of 58 people compared to 1998, a year that had previously seen a rise of 62 people compared to 1987, while the number of resident families has grown to 660,” explained Mayor Carla De Beni.

“The positive population balance is mainly due to new immigrants, with 114 arrivals versus 68 emigrants; in smaller proportions, it is also influenced by more births, with 24 new-borns compared to 12 deaths. This ongoing population increase, which has been continuing for nearly twenty years, is due to the presence of commercial activities that create new employment opportunities and attract new settlements.”

Since 1981, when the population was only 1,158, it has steadily increased to today, with a total growth of nearly 63%.
