City Market Faces Relocation Challenges Over Emergency Access and Ferry Traffic
Trouble ahead for the city’s market. After the Rivoltella market, the Tuesday appointment with the 300 vendors is also causing quite a few headaches for the Municipal Administration.
Request for moving the stalls
The issue of relocating 16 stalls was raised by Navigarda, the organization that manages public navigation services on Italy’s largest lake.
Navigarda — reported Emanuele Giustacchini, the councilor — has requested the relocation of the vendors’ stalls occupying the area between the newsstand located at the Banca Popolare di Verona building, towards via Anelli and vicolo Teatro.
The two — explained the councilor for Commerce — are reasons: the need for emergency vehicles to access and to allow cars and vehicles intending to board the ferry, which departs from Desenzano every Tuesday, heading towards Riva del Garda.
Administration’s considerations
The councilor clarified that this is a public service, and the Administration is evaluating the issue, which will be submitted to the market commission and then discussed with category representatives.
To meet Navigarda’s requests, it involves relocating 16 vendors who have their stalls in the area near Navigarda’s headquarters.
The simplest solution could be moving them to Maratona, but this would take away parking spaces on the very day they are most needed.
“We are committed to finding a solution by the end of May,” added Mayor Anelli. “I want to resolve the matter by keeping adjacent streets and squares free of obstructions along the lakeside promenade.”
