Colà Elects New Re del Goto Amid Bardolino Wine Celebrations
Polenta, lardo, codeghin, fogassin and lots of wine. This is the slogan accompanying the election campaign of Colà’s mascot: el Re del Goto.
After all, it is in Colà, on the gentle hills surrounding the shores of the lower lake, that the best vineyard of Bardolino DOC is cultivated. The saltiest and most drinkable in the area, especially the Bardolino rosé. The rosé that is the roséest around.
Thus, Colà’s mascot could only be the Re del Goto, symbol of good drinking and quality wine.
The elections and the candidates
The “friends of the carnival” in Colà are in frenzy, preparing for the election of the new sire for the 2001 carnival; the carnival of the third millennium.
The contenders are two: El Seresin, whose real name is Paolo Ceresini, outgoing Colà mascot, and Renato Circasso, the opponent eager to “snatch” the throne from El Seresin.
The polling station opens at 9 a.m. on Sunday, February 11, in piazza don Vantini.
The opening of the ballot boxes will be greeted by a big “polenta and lardo” celebration.
Immediately afterwards, rivers of Bardolino wine for all voters and supporters.
The ballots will close at 12 noon, and shortly after, the new Re del Goto for the year 2001 will be proclaimed.
The newly elected mascot of Colà, guardian of good Garda wine, will close the grand Colà carnival on Sunday, February 25, along the streets of the center of the renowned thermal station in the Garda hinterland.
