Costs of the Desenzano Hospital: Controversies and Requests from the Committee
The controversy surrounding the new hospital in Desenzano is intensifying with the announcement of an increase in hospital costs, which have risen from 142 to 255 million euros. The committee “Let’s Keep the Hospital of Desenzano on Montecroce” has submitted an addition to the complaint already sent to the Court of Auditors and the Public Prosecutor’s Office, requesting an examination of the technical and economic documentation justifying this increase. The Regional Council of Lombardy has approved a budget allocation spread over six years, but the committee raises concerns about the consistency between the declared urgency and the expected timelines for completion.
The new figure exceeds the initial estimate in the Feasibility Study by 79%, which had already been criticized for omissions. Currently, there are no studies or public projects available that explain the jump in costs, fueling concerns that the project was conceived with unrealistic assessments to promote a new construction rather than the upgrading of the existing hospital. Furthermore, the distribution of expenses over six years contrasts with the urgent need to improve healthcare services in the seismic zone 2, while citizens are facing increasing difficulties in receiving adequate healthcare.
