The Salò Coast Guard received a report from some divers regarding the presence of a dangerous fishing net in Gardone Riviera, at a depth of about 15 meters. The presence of the net was confirmed during a dive in the coastal waters, where a barrier of about 40 meters was found along the seabed.
In view of the danger posed by the net to diving in the area, a notice to mariners and the public was issued, including a message on WhatsApp, to inform them of the danger. At the same time, a joint operation was planned between the Fire Department and the Coast Guard to locate and remove the net.
The removal operations were carried out by two teams of divers from the Milan Fire Department and two naval vessels from the Coast Guard. After about 3 hours, the net was located and recovered from the seabed. However, the poor condition of the equipment makes it difficult to trace the users of the net.
The net was subjected to administrative seizure for violation of Regional Regulation No. 5 of the Lombardy Region. The fishing gear was placed in a container awaiting administrative authorization for destruction. Despite the difficulties in tracing the users, the focus on the lake environment remains high.
