Desenzano: “Mirror Scam” Caught in the Act, 21-Year-Old Arrested Over the weekend, officers from the Desenzano del Garda Police Station arrested a 21-year-old man while he was attempting to deceive an elderly driver with the well-known “mirror scam.” During a routine check, a patrol noticed a suspicious car on Via Marconi, whose driver, with a damaged left mirror, was making frequent stops to observe vehicles. Just before the police intervention, the young man staged a fake collision with the elderly man’s car, unjustly accusing him of causing the damage.
Thanks to the prompt action of the officers, who witnessed the scene, the scammer was apprehended, and necessary testimonies were gathered to confirm the attempted extortion. A search of the car revealed various items used to simulate collisions and target victims. The 21-year-old from Brescia, already known to law enforcement, was arrested for aggravated and continued fraud. The Police Commissioner of Brescia issued him a Mandatory Expulsion Order, prohibiting his return to Desenzano for four years, along with a Public Security Oral Warning.
