Desenzano and Antibes Officially Twinned During Cultural Ceremony
With a visit from the delegation of the Comune di Desenzano to Antibes, the twinning between the Corsican town and the capital of Garda was officially ratified.
Leading the delegation was Mayor Cino Anelli, warmly received by the French officials. In addition to Desenzano, there were representatives from Schwäbisch Gmünd (Germany) and Kinsale (Ireland), two other towns that have established friendly relations and exchange programs with Antibes.
The ceremony and the delegations’ activities
On the first evening, the three delegations dined together with an orchestra. The following day, the Gardesani visited the 28th Antiquities and Antiques Fair.
However, the highlight of the visit was the day when the Mayor of Antibes hosted a reception and solemnly accepted the decision made by the Desenzano Town Council to twine: a formal act, it might have been, but undeniably emotional.
The ceremony took place at Villa Eilenroc. Antibes, with a population of 65,000, is a city on the French Riviera magnificently situated at the base of the famous Cap d’Antibes peninsula, which encloses the equally renowned Baie des Anges to the south.
Along with Juan-les-Pins, it forms one of the most prestigious and extensive seaside resorts in southern France. Antibes comprises the old town, rich in museums and art galleries, the Grimaldi Castle, and the Picasso Museum.
