Desenzano Boat Slip Lottery Results to Be Announced April 11
The news that many boaters in Desenzano had been waiting for is finally official. The draw for allocating boat slips at the four ports in the town (Pontili marina, Porto Vecchio, Rivoltella, and Zattera) will take place on Wednesday, April 11, in the premises of the Comune di Desenzano.
Once the “lottery” has been conducted, a provisional ranking will be published, which, barring any issues or administrative appeals, will become operational. Before the start of summer, fortunate boat owners will be able to go out on their boats, casting off from the Desenzano port.
For the less lucky, however, a painful operation looms — hauling the boat out of the water to take it home or transfer it to a private port, where, however, available moorings are almost non-existent given that private owners begin their reservations as early as autumn. The municipal offices of Desenzano received at least 700 applications for 450 available moorings.
Therefore, the draw has been automatically initiated. In recent months, applications have been carefully scrutinized, with some found to lack required documents or photographs. Additional documentation was requested from the municipal offices. This complex process concluded in recent days.
Checks and disputes over applications
No one wanted to confirm the speculation that numerous applications might be fabricated. Rumors, after all, travel quickly in such cases—whether they contain truth or not.
In some cases, it was confirmed that multiple applications included photographs of boats attached to others, indicating classic duplicates. Such tricks, moreover, were also observed when the Port Inspectorate was in charge of allocating the boat slips.
Work of the technical office and objections
The work by the technical office and Giovanni Venieri, the councilor, was demanding: filtering through hundreds of applications, conducting cross-checks, deciding on objections raised by Oreco, the control authority, and then reviewing the notice and the regulation.
Oreco had raised objections regarding the pre-emption rights introduced by the Comune for boaters who had already obtained a concession last year. In short, a start fraught with risks. This situation was not unique to Desenzano but was common in nearly all Municipalities, with the exception of Sirmione.
