Disappointing revenue from paid parking in Desenzano: below expectations

One year after the introduction of paid parking in Desenzano, the results are below expectations. The move, which made 625 previously free parking spaces paid and increased rates by 50%, has not brought in the expected revenue and has caused inconvenience to residents, students, workers, and businesses.

Stefano Terzi, a councilor from the Democratic Party, has compiled a detailed report highlighting the failure of the adopted strategy. According to Terzi, half of the new paid parking spaces are actually losing money. For example, in via Padre Annibale di Francia, Vittorio Veneto, Lungolago, Vò, and Tassinara, the parking spaces are not generating profits. A paradoxical case concerns via Michelangelo, where two parking meters collected less than 450 euros in seven months, while the administration spent 1,400 euros on new signs, road signs, and labor.

Terzi emphasizes that parking subscriptions have been subscribed to by only a few people and no tourists. The increase in revenue is mainly due to the increase in rates for the existing old parking meters and only marginally to the new paid parking areas.
