Donna per Donna: Support and Research for Women Post-Breast Surgery
Suffering and fear stem from ignorance and loneliness, which are among the worst afflictions of our society.
Precisely to eliminate these problems, the Donna per Donna Association was founded, with the primary goal of helping women who have undergone breast surgery to regain their psychophysical integrity, alongside women who have already experienced and overcome the cancer event.
For this reason, the association promotes a series of initiatives, meetings, and events which, over the past 12 years—since its founding in 1988—have contributed to helping hundreds of women from Brescia and Garda.
Structure and Activities of the Association
Indeed, the Donna per Donna volunteer association was established in 1988 with two locations: one in Desenzano at via Roma 34 (phone 030/9142545) and another in Brescia at via Cremona 139 (at the S. Giovanni health center, phone 030/2449840). It is a non-profit organization with 350 members. It is chaired by Claudia Schiavi.
The next scheduled event is tomorrow, Friday, February 18th, at 8:30 PM, at the Palazzo del Turismo in Desenzano.
This is a night of great importance, featuring Dr. Franco Berrino, head of the unit and director of the Cos study, epidemiology division of the Istituto nazionale per lo studio e la cura dei tumori. He will present the national study on breast cancer risk.
Initiatives and Conferences Promoted by the Association
But this is just the latest in a series of initiatives organized by the Association, which held three conferences in 1999 in Medole, Calvisano, and Castel Goffredo, featuring participation from oncologist Enrico Micheletti, radiologist-surgeon Luciano Cirelli, and oncologic surgeon Carlo Baroni.
The association also organizes gentle post-operative gymnastics courses, hospital visits for women who have undergone surgery upon request, and employs specialized personnel for physiotherapy.
