Dr. Vittorio Pirlo Receives Salò ‘Gasparo da Salò’ Award for Community Service
Dr. Vittorio Pirlo is the first recipient of the «Gasparo da Salò» award. Established by the Municipal Administration, the recognition aims to honor «a Salò native who has contributed to making the name of Salò famous worldwide».
«While I was still considering the idea of establishing the award — wrote the mayor, Giampiero Cipani, to Dr. Pirlo — I was already thinking of his illustrious person as the recipient of the accolade. And I certainly didn’t need to read his impressive résumé to understand how his multiple activities dedicated to serving the Salò community, carried out with passion, perseverance, and tenacity, constitute the most shining example to highlight for public attention».
Engagements and Activities of Dr. Pirlo
The story of Dr. Pirlo, owner of a historic pharmacy in Salò, is indeed a succession of administrative, social, and cultural commitments: he was already mayor of Salò from 1955 to 1960 and sports and tourism councilor in Gardone Riviera from 1975 to 1980, Vittorio Pirlo also served as president of the Azienda autonoma di soggiorno Gardone Riviera e Salò from 1977 to 1986, president of the Ateneo di Salò from 1992, and a councilor of the Fondazione del Vittoriale starting in 1992 (he has authored numerous studies and publications dedicated to D’Annunzio).
Furthermore: he founded the Estate musicale di Salò in 1958 (recently revived with great success), served as president of the Canottieri Garda from 1950 to 1973, president of Panathlon Brescia from 1968 to 1980, and was a member of the Organizing Committee for the Rome Olympics for rowing and canoeing.
The Award Ceremony and the «Salògolosa» Initiative
The award was presented to him on Thursday at the town hall during a ceremony that preceded and introduced «Salògolosa». Organized by the Municipal Administration and Arcigola Slow Food, with the sponsorship of the Province, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Apt of Brescia, the gastronomic route of «Salògolosa» took place across the squares and alleys of the historic center.
By purchasing a coupon card, participants could taste high-quality foods and wines at various refreshment stations set up for the event: restaurants, pastry shops, cafés, wine shops, ice cream parlors, as well as terraces and historic private residences available for the occasion.
Musical accompaniment, between tastings, was provided by about a dozen artists and groups dispersed throughout the historic Salò center, which was literally filled with a crowd of food enthusiasts armed with plates, cutlery, and glasses.
«A truly successful event, definitely worth repeating», said the people. In fact, «Salògolosa» will have a new chapter in autumn, most likely in October. (s.bot.)
