Efforts Rise to Establish Lake Garda Police Station Amid Political Support

A “task force” is formed to try to establish a permanent Police station on the shores of Lake Garda. “We absolutely need to put pressure on all institutional bodies to succeed in having a Police station on Lake Garda.” This was reiterated by **provincial councilor for public safety Adimaro Moretti degli Adimari**, following a summit with the lakefront mayors at the Province. The initiative, however, and this is one of the major novelties, was strongly supported and requested this time by the **Veronese Parliamentarian Alberto Giorgetti**, who, in agreement with the provincial counselor, responded to the heartfelt appeal recently launched by the mayor of Torri, **Alberto Vedovelli**, in the newspaper L’Arena.

It was Vedovelli himself, towards the end of winter, who promoted, on behalf of the other lakefront mayors, the request to establish a public safety police station, and he recently reiterated the request because, despite good intentions, the meetings held and consensus among all parties involved, nothing concrete had yet occurred. “We can’t hope,” Vedovelli had said, “that the Questore or Prefect alone can secure the ministerial approval for a Police station on the lake.”

They, in fact, must depend on ministerial directives. At this point, the Veronese MPs should intervene, as they are the only ones capable of effectively pressuring the Minister of the Interior and the Ministry.” Thus, at the provincial meeting, besides some mayors and representatives of the **lakefront Municipalities** and the provincial assessor, who has long supported the idea of a police station on the lake, were Deputies Alberto Giorgetti and Umberto Chincarini, the latter also mayor of Peschiera.

“Just these days,” explained Adimaro Moretti degli Adimari, “I had a meeting with the **Prefect**. On Friday, we will hold a new joint meeting, together with all the mayors, directly with the Prefect, to further outline the course of action. In any case, some small steps forward have been outlined.” “Firstly,” continued Moretti, “the will of the mayors and the Province to establish a permanent, not just summer, police station on the lake has been confirmed. Specifically, in Lazise, in the building of Via Roma, provided by the local **Administration**. Furthermore, all mayors have confirmed their willingness to support the costs for refurbishing the premises. Lastly, some Veronese parliamentarians have offered to involve other MPs to exert a joint effort on the Government regarding this issue.”

Moderately satisfied is also the mayor of Torri, Alberto Vedovelli, promoter of the mayors’ initiatives and of the appeal to the MPs. According to the town’s first citizen, “some small steps have been taken. First, the safety issue now involves the mayor of Cavaion as well, since the safety concern also affects the hinterland near the lake. More importantly, thanks to the involvement of MP Alberto Giorgetti, we should now have the support of other parliamentarians, regardless of political color. Only they, more than us, the Province, the Questore, and the **Prefect**, can be able to continually urge the Ministry and officials to resolve the problem. The collaboration from the mayors will be total.”

Soon, the mayors and the provincial assessor will also pay a courtesy visit to the **Provincial Commander of the Carabinieri**. “With the Carabinieri,” Vedovelli concluded, “relations are very good. It should be clarified that this effort to obtain a police station is not due to deficiencies on their part. The action is purely in the interest of all citizens, as a substantial presence of **Law Enforcement Agencies** in the territory, ideally coordinated, offers much greater security guarantees.”
