Enea Zenoglio and the educational system: the choice of Desenzano

Enea Zenoglio, a student at the Bagatta High School in Desenzano, has made an unprecedented decision by refusing to take the oral exam for his high school diploma, becoming the first student from Brescia to make such a choice. At 19 years old and with an average grade of 8, he graduated with a score of 61/100 despite his absence from the oral exam. His protest is rooted in criticisms of the educational system, which he believes is too focused on grades and unable to meet the needs of students. Zenoglio clarified that his protest is not directed at teachers, but rather at school policies that prioritize bureaucracy over human interaction.

Recent statements by the Minister of Education, Giuseppe Valditara, proposing to ban abstention from oral exams have further fueled Zenoglio’s dissent. He fears that new measures could turn students into “obedient workers” with no space for dissent. Currently, Zenoglio is the only student at his high school who did not participate in the oral exam, and after graduation, he intends to pursue university studies in Sociological Sciences in Padua or Sociology in Trento.
