Environmental Conference in Brescia to Focus on Lower Garda Sustainability
Preparations are underway for a major environmental conference organized by the Municipality. The date has already been set: February 19.
Among the speakers are already invited the Regional Environment Councillor, Franco Nicoli Cristiani, the president of the Municipal Public Company of Broscia, Capra, the president of the Province of Brescia, Alberto Cavalli, as well as the Provincial Environment Councillor, Enzo Cossu, the Honorable Gianni Pilo, and — although the final approval is still pending — the president of the Region, Roberto Formigoni, who will obviously have the role of opening the event and delivering the welcoming addresses.
Also invited are the Director of the Environmental Monitoring Center and member of the CNR, Eugenio Ziiioli, the Principal of the Sirmione Middle Schools, Giuliana Sandrone, and the Environmental Delegate Councilor of Sirmione, Michele Piermarini.
Themes and Objectives of the Conference
The theme of the conference, as mentioned, will focus on environmental issues in the Lower Garda area.
Moreover, by that date, the name of the company that will have won the tender for the service of freight transport within the historic center exclusively using electric vehicles should already be known.
As remembered, Sirmione was one of the first towns in the region to equip itself with electric motor vehicles, thanks also to the contribution provided by the Environmental and Ecological Sector of the Lombardy Region (almost 400 million lire).
The service contract includes the transportation of goods and food supplies to and from the town center.
In recent months, about twenty electric scooters have been distributed to other residents of Sirmione, followed by waste collection missions with electric vans. Now, it’s time for freight transport.
At a later stage, there will be discussions about private cars. This will be more complex, as it will require consultations with business categories and the local population.
However, the direction of the administration seems clear: to achieve the gradual ban on car circulation in the Sirmione historic center.
