Environmental Pollution in Lower Garda: WWF’s Warning

A new episode of environmental pollution has affected the beaches of Lower Garda, with reports from volunteers of the WWF Bergamo Brescia, who intervened in Desenzano on August 29 following a citizen’s complaint. During the inspection, the presence of “foul-smelling blocks of strange material” carried by the lake’s waters was confirmed, found beneath the towels of sunbathers and the feet of children. Experts determined that these polluting aggregates were likely washed ashore due to recent intense weather phenomena.

The material found included substances such as grease, detergents, emollients, and liquid plastics, along with organic elements like hair and human feces. The Local Police and ARPA Lombardia arrived on the scene to initiate investigations, while technicians from Acque Bresciane began analyzing the phenomenon, which extends from Lonato to Rivoltella. The WWF has issued a call for urgent structural interventions on the area’s sewage system, highlighting the seriousness of the situation and its negative impact on the lake’s ecosystem.
