As part of an operation against irregular labor and exploitation of the workforce, the Finance Police of the Provincial Command of Brescia have seized four workshops in the clothing manufacturing sector. The inspections, carried out simultaneously at nine companies, led to the identification of 71 foreign workers, 35 of whom were employed under exploitative conditions in the seized locations. Among the workers, three were found to be irregular in the country and were receiving wages below the national collective agreements and below the poverty threshold established by ISTAT.
The investigations also revealed the presence of 17 workers “off the books” and four “irregular” workers, with five individuals reported to the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Brescia Court for violations related to illegal entry and residence. The urgent preventive seizure was validated by the Judge for Preliminary Investigations and was implemented to halt work activities in degrading conditions and to ensure the protection of the rights of the affected workers.
