Laura Meriano, an athlete from the Società Canottieri Garda Salò, has claimed the title of European vice-champion in rowing, alongside her teammate Alice Codato, during the European Rowing Championships held in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, on May 31. The two athletes competed in the women’s double sculls event, achieving an outstanding silver medal after leading the race for over half of the distance, thanks to a powerful start and a decisive performance.
Despite a strong finish from the formidable Romanian duo of Maria Magdalena Rusu and Simona Radis, the reigning Olympic champions in the eight, who surged ahead for victory, Meriano and Codato managed to maintain their pace and defend their second place from the challenge posed by the British crew. Nicola Benedetti, President of the Società Canottieri Garda Salò, expressed pride in Laura Meriano’s achievement, emphasizing the importance of her example for young athletes.
