Expo Scuolambiente 2023: Climate Education and European Eco Projects
Today marks the beginning of the eighth edition of «Expo Scuolambiente», an event created in 1992 by Regione Lombardia to foster a close relationship between schools and ecology.
Over the years, the initiative has grown in quality, with increasingly engaging content, popularity among the school community, and the ability to connect with external organizations at the European level.
So much so that Desenzano and Villa Tassinara will be filled until May 17th with 8,000 students from Brescia and Lombardy schools, as well as experts and educational operators.
In conjunction with Expo 2000, significant international projects such as «Visions» are launching.
Goals and themes of the 2000 edition
But let’s look at the identity card of Expo Scuolambiente, which this year features the theme of climate change: reality, reasons, responsibilities.
Human action to protect the climate, balancing global commitments and targeted interventions to reduce CO2 emissions in transportation, energy systems, and conservation efforts.
The project is structured on multiple levels, beginning with an informational campaign across all regional schools at the start of the school year, followed by a training course for teachers.
At Villa Tassinara, an exhibition on climate protection has been set up, offering information, data, and practical proposals.
This is a preview of the touring exhibition promoted by the Regione in collaboration with Alleanza per il clima, Alpe Adria, which in the coming months will be displayed in Slovenia and Croatia…
Exhibition spaces and activities
There is also a section dedicated to projects and educational works from Lombardy schools and Alpe Adria, an exhibition space for other special projects, areas for workshops, display stands, an Internet station, as well as a motor skills and climbing laboratory.
Overall, there will be 10 workshops for classes and visitors, guided tours, international seminars on European environmental education projects, international exchanges with 4 foreign schools from Austria, Slovenia, and Hungary, 3 theatrical entertainment festivals, and a meeting between the regional Environment Assessor and students.
The third Crea environmental education conference will also be held in Desenzano, along with the V European forum on ecology and the presentation of the Visions project: European youth towards sustainability.
Goals and focus of the event
The Villa Tassinara exhibition aims to showcase, including through resources identified by young people, the new path of a shared ecology, developed as a broad societal need.
The involvement of schools embodies this idea, but also provides an important educational opportunity to deepen understanding through hands-on activities.
The implementation of laboratories is particularly noteworthy, especially considering that, in many cases, Italian schools still primarily rely on theoretical instruction, with limited practical verification on the field.
